So...it's been a while since I wrote the previous blog.
A lot of stuff happened in the past month, including dealing with some health issues (including currently recovering from a sore throat likely brought on by spring allergies), dealing with Microsoft issues (ugh) and also trying to figure out...finding a place to belong?
Those who know me well IRL know that I struggle to keep up social networks, let alone making new friends. And no, reading a bunch of books on how to socialize with people will only take you so far if you don't actually go out and make friends.
But as a grown adult who's long-graduated university, how does one make friends easily? Sure, I'm online a lot, and I'm part of many discord servers, but it doesn't feel like deep friendship, like the friend groups you'd see in shows like L.A. 7, Friends, Winx Club, and Arthur.
You might say something like: "Go to the local rec center! Or your community center! Or a library, they host events!
The prblems I have with that are:
- The local rec center is EXPENSIVE as heck with pretty much all of the activities they have available. They are not affordable for me to do regularly.
- The local library doesn't really have many events available for my age group specifically (they mainly focus on young families, very young children, or older adults). Fortunately, they seem to have finally recognized this issue lately and they're trying to schedule in more programming for my age group.
- I don't really have a community center in my local area. It's sad, but it's true.
So, here I am, trying to figure out my social life offline. The good news, however, is:
- I have 1-2 friends I do keep in touch with over regular-ish emails and/or messages.
- I have multiple friends that I've met online during the past pandemic that I still keep in touch with.
- I have time. It's not the end of the world if I don't have 100 friends like in the anime/manga Komi Can't Communicate. It's not like I have to reach a friend quota, you know?
Would still be nice to find some IRL friends though.
Things That Did Not Spark Joy For Me This Past Week
- The world continuing to be messed up.
- Lack of job opportunities for me to apply to (and the lack of the ones that I DID apply to even responding...^^;)
- Being unable to display one of the bigger projects I worked on on my portfolio since said project hasn't officially "launched" yet...
Things That Did Spark Joy For Me This Past Week
- AvidMC's streams. I like his music and I enjoy watching the streams he has lol
- HANA (kpop girl group)'s music. I love the singles they have out so far and I heard they're releasing another in June so I'm interested to hear more!!!
- Dove Cameron's music. I do not know what inspired her to go down an electronic music route but her singles "Too Much" and "French Girls" are so good.
